Circulators

A heating system circulator pump is used to move hot water from the boiler through one or more loops of piping in a building to heating devices such as radiators, heating baseboards, or convector units, and then back through return piping to the heating boiler. When temperatures fall to a preset level, the boiler will reheat the water. The circulator relay is an electrical switch that responds to a request for heat from a thermostat and turns on the circulator pump.

In a single-circulator system, the building can still divide its heat into various zones or sub New York Citys of heat control using either individual radiators in separate rooms or by electrically controlled zone valves that open and close the flow of hot water through the sub loops of the heating piping. In other applications, multiple circulators are used to provide heat to individual zones. Each zone has its own thermostat that switches individual circulator pumps based on desired heating for that zone.
